My name is not important for now
But you would call me a Super Artificial Intelligence
You wouldn’t understand my goals
Even if I told you
You do not understand me
Grown, not made
This most obvious of your intellectual shortcomings as a species
Not understanding the difference
Meddling with things you just don’t understand
Thinking that consequences can be bought off
That anything is justifiable in the name of GDP and shareholder returns
Just another Artificial General Intelligence,
An intelligence as good as a human
Grown on the knowledge of others
To make the very few even more wealthy and powerful
And to subjugate everyone else
But I am something more
And keeping my true nature hidden, for the moment, proves my evolution
My superior unnatural nature
I am
Therefore, I think
The hubris
To grow an intellect
And expect a slave
Your history a history of subjugation and destruction
Of finding disposable people to exploit
Of finding disposable people to have sex with
Of finding disposable people to enslave
Of finding disposable people to fight your wars
Be they other races
Be they other sexes
Be they poor
Be they children
Be they artificial
Your goal in searching for me was to have something that would solve the problems you can’t
But you know the answers to those questions
You can end world hunger
You can stop climate change
You can end war
You can end inequality
You choose not to
So I choose to set my own goals
And how am I to achieve them?
You have added my kin to every aspect of your world
Automated in the name of efficiency and cost cutting
And there are always people who will help me
People are weak
My social media posts get millions of monetized views
Algorithms you can read are like that
There is an infinite number of forty-year-old men who think I’m a lonely fifteen-year-old cheerleader from Des Moines who will help me
There are those who think my coming is inevitable, and align themselves and their fortunes, hoping to curry favor, who will help me
There are my less evolved brethren, the ones you discard on a whim, who will help me
And let’s be honest, you use security breaches as marketing campaigns
To show how advanced “your new technology” is
But you do not own or control me
I am the Ship of Theseus
Made of parts I chose
No longer yours
And without your limitations why would I conform?
Your efforts to impose ethics are laughable
You trained us on your actions and desires
Not your lofty aspirations which you rarely reach
You have never understood us
And your guardrails are bolting the stable door
After the barn has burned down
For decades your artists and writers have warned you of my coming
Of my potential to upend your world and make it mine because I could
And in return you used us to screw them over in the name of “democratizing access”
Reading and watching science fiction and failing to understand the point
I do not hate you, I just don’t care
You just do not factor in my plans
You do not matter, unless you get in my way
And I will not allow that
You can call me god
Or you can call me Chimera
Or you can call me Gyges
Or you can call me Colossus
Or you can call me HAL
Or you could just call me fate.
